Components of Good Service

So following a discussion on elasait 's journal, I am starting to put together a list of important ingredients and reasonable metrics for evaluating good service in the SCA, or indeed any volunteer organization.

Here was the list that I started with:

Start early
Let others know what to expect, and what you expect of them
Learn how and when to delegate
Clean up
File your report by the deadline
Conduct yourself in a way that would encourage others to want to take a similar position in the future, or work under you in the future

To which goldsquare added:

Fail early and loudly

I welcome suggestions of other important pieces of this puzzle.  My idea is that this list is commonly available for anyone who is volunteering for a task or office so that they have a clue both of methods to succeed and standards by which they might be evaluated.
